Summary

I am a Principal Scientist at Dasman Diabetes Institute (DDI) in Kuwait, where I lead the Proteomics Core Facility and head the Special Services Department. I hold a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Carleton University in Canada and earned my Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa, followed by postdoctoral training at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute.
I am internationally recognized for my work in diabetes and metabolic diseases—particularly in lipid metabolism. I have authored over 144 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as Diabetes Care, JCEM, and Progress in Lipid Research, with over 4,400 citations and an h-index of 34. My team’s comprehensive characterization of ANGPTL8—particularly its role in lipid metabolism, adipose tissue regulation, and insulin-driven expression—has helped reshape our understanding of metabolic regulation and disease.
I currently lead multiple research projects focused on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), diabetes prevention, and emerging therapies for type 1 diabetes. As an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio, I have supervised graduate students, summer interns, and undergraduate researchers, while also contributing to teaching across all undergraduate levels. My commitment to mentorship and global collaboration reflects a strong dedication to advancing science and education.
