· Conducts regular rounds in all hospital departments to discuss, monitor and follow all Health Care Associated Infections, Infection present on admission and other communicable diseases.
· Collects data of HAI from all assigned departments and maintain records for each case, in accordance with CDC definitions.
· Follows and investigates the incidences of HAI cases, generates reports and forwards copy of the reports to the chairperson of Infection Control Committee and Director of Nursing.
· Collects all the statistical data and prepares reports as required by the Infection control directorate. (Surveillance, Patient days, ward and ICU denominators, Device days, SSI denominator data, bundle of care, checklists etc.)
· Identifies Outbreaks and participates in epidemic investigations (collects, analyzes, summarizes and presents data on case details, investigation reports, action taken and outcomes) under the supervision of IC coordinator and epidemiologist.
· Ensures the availability of place and supplies required for isolation and proper implementation of Isolation precautions.
· Implements educational programs to provide staff with knowledge and skills regarding infection control practices and preventive measures to provide a safe environment for clients and employees.
· Monitors the implementation of Infection control policies and protocols, provide guidance to staff and counsels them as per the need.
· Participates and assists in the organization of regularly scheduled hospital Infection Control Committee meetings.
· Collaborates with IC doctor and identifies hindrance in implementation of IC policies and takes necessary steps to overcome those, by coordinating with other departments.
· Ensures proper management of waste, soiled linen, contaminated reusable instruments and environmental cleaning and disinfection, in order to prevent cross infection.
· Monitors the procedure of specimen collection, transport and handling both at point of care and laboratories. Reports any incidents and mishandling and take corrective measures as needed.
· Collaborates with CSSD staff in all matters related to sterilization and disinfection.
· Ensures that HCP’s are free from infectious diseases by periodic monitoring and vaccination programs.
· Participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives, in-service education programs and unit meetings as assigned.
· Initiates emergency, safety practices and fire safety measures as necessary.
· Maintains appropriate MOH Nursing Competencies in line with CDC, NHSN and KNHSS to continue personal and professional development.
