- Research title: Ossifying Fibroma: Retrospective Analysis of patients attending Khartoum Teaching Dental Hospital 2015-2019
- Date: January 2020
- Aim of research: Investigating the frequency, demographic data, & prognosis of treatment of ossifying fibroma in patients attending Khartoum Teaching Hospital
- Conclusions/Actions: The research proposal was done. The research itself was not completed due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Through my research on ossifying fibroma, I have uncovered insights into its prevalence, presentation, and treatment outcomes in Sudanese patients. I identified a notable lack of awareness among healthcare professionals, emphasizing the need for education. Accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment plans emerged as crucial factors for optimal patient outcomes. My project, if completed, would have contributed to improving understanding and management of ossifying fibroma in Sudan, ultimately enhancing awareness, early detection and better quality of care.
Empowering Oral Health in Underserved Rural Communities:
• Type of Presentation: Engaging oral presentations with dynamic practical demonstrations using models and visually captivating posters.
• Venue and Date: Presented at ten different small villages that are located in three different states in Sudan, the Northern State, Khartoum State and Algazira state. This was during my fourth and fifth year of college, 2019 - 2021.
• Topics: Oral health education, where attendees/patients learned not just with their minds but with all their senses. The presentation was a multi-sensory experience, integrating sight, touch, and sound to show the importance of proper oral hygiene practices. I utilized a crafted model of a lifelike mouth complete with teeth and gums, accompanied by an oversized toothbrush, to vividly demonstrate the correct brushing techniques. Complementing this were captivating posters that contain images showing the consequences of neglected oral hygiene. These visuals served as powerful reminders of the outcomes that could arise from improper brushing, including the development of dental caries and periodontal disease.
• Message: Through hands-on activities and colorful visuals, we discovered why taking care of our teeth is so important for our overall health. It wasn’t just a talk, it was a shared experience that brought us together to learn how to keep our smiles healthy and bright.
• Personal Contribution: From planning to execution, I looked into every aspect of the presentations with great attention to detail and dedication. Drawing upon my knowledge in oral health education and my natural flair for communication.
